Over the years, Kodama Diseño has covered a wide range of projects from educational facilities to recreational developments; however, the firm has become most known in the area of affordable and special needs housing which involves the interests of the community as well as their direct involvement in the design process. The Savo Island Cooperative Homes project in Berkeley, which received an AIA Honor Award, was one of the first projects to help establish formal recognition of this type of architecture. It became the primary model for special needs housing which the office continues to follow.
